I was helping my daughter move her stuff into storage the other day. First of all, I phoned my nephew Jamie and got him out of bed. Then, we went out to The Cape to help out. I had to get some shoes out of storage and put a TV and computer in. While I was in there, I started looking through the boxes for things I could sell on eBay. While browsing the various items, I found some of my ex-wife’s maternity clothes. Really no pleasant memories there, though I love my kids.

I am done working in retail and restaurants. After I get a job in a doctor’s office somewhere, I plan to continue on towards pre-med. It may be a little late in life to decide to do all of this, but it was just so liberating getting out of the retail and restaurant game. Never again will I have to take a job that requires me to have a dorky name tag or requires me to wear aprons. The only thing I’ll be wearing to work now are scrubs, and underwear of course, if my mom gets me the right ones for Christmas!

I am somewhat happy for my son. At one point in his life, not too long ago, I was worried his future would hold a lot of drug rehabilitation and criminal mischief. Now, he is not the most acclaimed person in the world but he has kicked some of his worst habits. I still think he smokes cigarettes and drinks alcohol often, but he is of age to do so and those substances are legal. The last I heard, he wanted to move back here. I told him he better bring some money if he wants me to consider it.

I know there is this stereotype about women owning a lot of shoes, but people like my daughter Jess are who help cement it. She has at least two hundred pairs of shoes that almost completely sill her closet. I would guess there are probably a hundred pairs she has never wore. In fact, shopping the other day she got some tall shoes that she called “sexy boots.” I own about four pairs of shoes myself, one for golf, one for bowling, one for work, and the dress shoes I wore to my wedding and subsequent divorce.

My daughter Jess knows this rich guy who gets his prescriptions at her pharmacy. He owns a set of season tickets to the local minor league hockey team. seats that cost him over $40 a game. Yet, this year he has yet to go to one single game. He gives the tickets to my daughter, so we end up going a great deal. Whenever she can’t go, that’s when I take my nephew. I am sure grateful to this rich guy for letting us have his tickets for nearly the whole year. While he is on a beach somewhere drinking hundred dollar wine, I will be enjoying the hockey games in a 40 degree building.
